Overview

Health disparities are pronounced in poor urban communities: poor sanitation, excessive crowding, and low immunisation contribute to inordinate morbidity and mortality, especially of children and women. While there are government hospitals in the cities nearby, families are unable to access these hospitals due to limitations in cost, awareness, and trust. Saath attends to these deficits at the grassroots level by advocating for preventive health, by facilitating screening camps, nutrition support, mother and child health and by connecting families to purposefully designed government schemes. Saath strives to transform health into a reality of community assets rather than privileges.

Unmet Surgical Needs

Surgical Support Program – Bridging the Gap Between Access and Action

Despite the presence of public health infrastructure and government schemes aimed at making surgical care affordable, many individuals from marginalized communities still face significant barriers in accessing timely treatment. These include lack of awareness, fear of medical procedures, complex processes, and high opportunity costs associated with navigating healthcare systems. As a result, many avoid seeking surgical care until complications become severe.

Samagra Program – Building an Inclusive Urban Health Ecosystem

Urban poor communities in India face significant barriers in accessing quality healthcare due to financial limitations, systemic neglect, and a lack of health awareness. With growing challenges like pandemics, climate change, and urban disasters, there is an urgent need for a holistic and inclusive healthcare model that addresses the preventive, promotive, and curative needs of women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

Reproductive and Child Healthcare Services

In urban low-income communities, many women lack access to timely antenatal and postnatal care, while children often miss essential immunizations and early health screenings. Cultural barriers, limited awareness, and fragile public health outreach systems make it difficult for women to make informed health decisions for themselves and their children.

Impact & Outcomes :

  • ● 4,863 women connected to antenatal and postnatal care
  • ● 12,870 children vaccinated
  • ● 6,097 people provided with contraception awareness
  • ● 5,978 blood tests for malaria conducted

Stop The Spread & COVID Vaccination Program

Fighting the Pandemic Through Awareness, Access, and Action

The COVID-19 pandemic deeply impacted urban and peri-urban communities, especially in slum areas where misinformation, limited access to healthcare, and fear of vaccination were widespread. There was an urgent need to counter myths, improve awareness, and facilitate access to vaccines, particularly among socio-economically disadvantaged populations.

Program Accomplishments :

  • ● 486+ drives held; 4.7 lakh+ people reached with COVID-19 awareness.
  • ● 572 influencers engaged; 88,000+ vaccinated in Ahmedabad, Jaipur & Surat.
  • ● 82,696 assisted with vaccine registration; 1.25 lakh+ health queries resolved.
  • ● STOP THE SPREAD vans deployed; myths busted and access ensured in communities.
